I always enjoy Krueger's tales, and in my opinion this is one of his better ones. This book is deep and rich with its sense of place and the window it provides into the world of the native Americans of northern Minnesota. But don't worry, there is a mystery at hand, and Cork O"Connor and his Indian and white friends combine to assist him in solving it. This is truly a story about community - relatives, old friends, neighbors, the natural environment - and how all of these entities coordinate to affect our lives for the better. A new direction for Krueger? Perhaps.
