What a thrill to preview this new novel by Kate Morton. This new novel is ambitious as it spans the mid-19th century to 2017 featuring a house (Birchwood Manor) and an iconic blue diamond pendant (the Radcliffe Blue). The scope of this book was a bit disorienting at times. There were many POV (including a ghost named "Birdie" -- the book's namesake) and some of those folks had dual timelines when they intersected with others affected by the house and/or the diamond. In classic Kate Morton fashion, the threads are woven back together for us tightly enough to feel closure while remaining a bit loose so the reader does not feel manipulated or coerced.
