Alex & Eliza was such an adorable book that I kept wanting to read more and more. The author managed to make me swoon over a fictional character, Alexander Hamilton, because he was so sweet, charming, handsome (at least in my head), and in general just absolutely amazing. A classic wartime love story, but not taking place during the infamous World Wars, but instead during the American Revolution that took place from 1775 to 1783. The ideals of the 18th century were perfectly melded into the book’s plot, such as the formal language, Alexander’s chivalry (obviously), the former customs, and the image of the war through the soldiers’ eyes. This book was honestly so cheesy but beautiful, and kept me rooting for the Eliza and Alex. De La Cruz wrote nothing about physical romance between the two characters, and still managed to pull off a great romance novel that begged me to keep reading. I give this book a 5/5 star rating and recommend it to ages 13 and up. - @ilovefood of The Hamilton Public Library's Teen Review Board
