Dr. Eric Parrish is the chief of the Psychiatric Unit at a large hospital. He cares deeply about his patients and wants to help them recover. One of his new patients, Max, has OCD symptoms and has to touch his forehead and recite some words every 15 minutes. Max opens up about some worrying thoughts that are controlling him; thoughts where he sees himself strangling a girl he has a crush on. Things get tense when this girl turns up dead. Did Max kill her? Was the doctor responsible for the girl's death because he didn't report his concerns to the police? Meanwhile, Eric is going through a messy divorce and is missing his little girl, Hannah. Can he save his marriage or, at the very least, work with his wife to share custody? Eric is a likable main character. Max also tears at your heartstrings. I thought the author did a great job in portraying almost every character in the story as a possible killer! I typically know the outcome of a mystery before I even reach the half-way point. This time, I was surprised! I thought the ending was excellent; albeit a bit farfetched. The book also has a great lesson for those going through a messy divorce with children involved. Great summer read!
