This is a 1996 romantic drama directed by Anthony Minghella from his own script based on the novel of the same name by Michael Ondaatje. The film follows four dissimilar people brought together at an Italian villa during the Italian Campaign of World War II. One of those people is an unrecognisably burned man—--the titular patient, whose story occurs during the North African Campaign and centres on the incremental revelations of the patient's actions prior to his injuries, and the emotional effects of these revelations on the other characters. Although it is a powerful and moving story, I don't really understand why the "English patient" comes to love Katharine so much. The film does fail to depict this puzzle because Katharine doesn't interest me at all.
