A big fan of Larry's other books (Lonesome Dove, Texasville and others) I had high hopes. His offbeat sense of humor shows up from time to time, but not as much as I'd hoped. The story is predictable and the characters are classic McMurtry all the way but to be honest, I can't recommend it due to the disappointment as compared to his other stories. Meeting Duane in Texasville changed everything due to his 'call it as he sees it' view of life. It's too bad he didn't show up in Loop Group
