How in the world can there be a book on Sacagawea and The Vote is NOT mentioned?
In Nov 1805 when Lewis and Clark were at the mouth of the Columbia River, on the north side (now Washington) and the expedition needed to decide if they wanted to built a fort for the winter on the northern or southern side of the Columbia. They took a vote, where all members of the expedition got to vote...including Sacagawea and York (the slave). How scandalous!
This is such a Big Deal that there is a marker commemorating the spot of the vote.
