"Raw emotion, nonstop action, and relentless pacing makes Backlash another one-night read from Brad Thor, who delivers the book to beat in 2019."—The Real Book Spy

#1 New York Times, #1 Wall Street Journal, and #1 Publishers Weekly bestselling author Brad Thor is back with his most gripping thriller yet!
In ancient texts, there are stories about men who struck from the shadows, seemingly beyond the reach of death itself. These men were considered part angel, part demon. Their loyalty was to their families, their friends, and their kings. You crossed these men at your peril. And once crossed, there was no crossing back.

They were fearless; men of honor who have been known throughout history by different names: Spartan, Viking, Samurai.

Today, men like these still strike from the shadows. They are highly prized intelligence agents, military operatives, and assassins.

One man is all three.

Two days ago, that man was crossed—badly.

Now, far from home and surrounded by his enemy, Scot Harvath must battle his way out.

With no support, no cavalry coming, and no one even aware of where he is, it will take everything he has ever learned to survive.

But survival isn't enough. Harvath wants revenge.

In the most explosive novel Brad Thor has ever written, page after captivating page of action, intrigue, loyalty, and betrayal will keep you hooked until the very last sentence and a revelation that will take your breath away.

Predictable but within its genre a good read with lots of action and suspense.

I last read a BRAD THOR thriller in March 2018. For the last few months, I have been reading authors new to me but I felt the need to return a tried and trusted author. Reading Brad’s newest book was like snuggling up with my spouse – very comfortable. BACKLASH is number 19 in the Scot Harvath series and is one of the best.

Harvath has left his government career (Navy SEAL, Secret Service, C.I.A.) and has entered the world of private security working for Reed Carlson, an old friend. Carlson’s company has many former agents and operatives from the the same world as Harvath.

The story opens at a murder scene in rural New Hampshire. The victims are identified and stuff hits the fan in Washington, D.C. The victims include Harvath’s fiancé Lara, Lydia Ryan (former high-ranking C.I.A. executive) and Reed Carlson. Harvath is initially suspected as the killer and he has disappeared.

When Scot finally surfaces, he is on a Russian airplane, a victim of a snatch and grab by mysterious parties but definitely Russian. He has been beaten and tortured. His destination is unknown. However, as fate would have it, the plane crashes in an area a little south of Murmansk, Russia in the middle of winter. Harvath survives.

The story details how Harvath will try to survive. His enemies are the cold (it is very, very cold) and military mercenaries who are trying to find him, on personal and secret orders from the Russian President. Scot enlists the help of a widowed, Russian doctor who has connections with the native population. His “people” in Washington, D.C. eventually find out where he is and launch a rescue plan. However, “Murphy” intervenes and things do not go as planned.

The praise for Thor’s latest is universally five star. His writing, as usual, is top notch. Thor’s descriptions of the winter landscape and weather had me bundling up with sweaters and blankets to stay warm. The action is nonstop. There are hints of love and romance. If you are a reader of this genre, I highly recommend this book.

A mind numbing semi entertaining thriller that filled my day while suffering from a virus. Would recommend for "sick" reading.

A terrific thriller. Well worth the read.

Great thriller, but an increase in bad language from his previous books was frustating.

BACK LASH is the latest installment in the Scot Harvath series of thrillers by Brad Thor. Entertaining story line. Harvath kidnapped by the bad guys, he escapes, but winds up in Russia in the winter being chased by bad guys. Be prepared for him to have a lot of time on his own while escaping and evading - and when Harvath is alone for too long, his mind sometimes wanders into self-denigrating thought patterns. Other than a tad too much of that, its a great read.

Another fast-paced thriller from one of the best in the business. I eagerly anticipate the newest Scot Harvath adventure every summer, and this did not disappoint. I hope Thor continues to find ways to drag Harvath back into the espionage game, because I cannot get enough.

Big Thor fan. Read all of his books and this one shows how far he has progressed as a writer. Did I just experience a Georgraphy lesson? Love it. When you close this book you'll have multiple questions.....Where next? New characters?
