A remote alpine ski lodge. A devastating avalanche. 12 snowbound characters with a killer among them. Secrets and suspense. Author Ruth Ware’s latest, ONE BY ONE, is a “locked-room” mystery à la the Agatha Christie classic, AND THEN THERE WERE NONE, but with a modern high-tech twist. It’s an entertaining page-turner that I devoured in 3 days. It took some time to sort out who’s who in the cast, and the ending was drawn out, but overall, this atmospheric thriller gets high marks from me. By the way, it was interesting to look up and listen to the music selections referenced in the introduction and at the beginning of some chapters.

An IT leadership group meets in an alpine ski lodge to consider a buyout offer, but become isolated by an avalanche. And then members begin dying, one by one. Written in short chapters, each in the voice of a participant. Good read for an airplane flight, but not challenging.

I'm sad to admit that I didn't enjoy this book. This was my first book I've read from this author and I think Ruth Ware is a greater writer and I was a fan of her writing style but the book in itself was annoying. The only characters I enjoyed were Danny and Erin, the rest were all so awful and underdeveloped. I found it hard to connect to the other characters or be able to tell them apart. I love locked in mysteries but this one just wasn't it.. I found it a little predictable and hope that this author's other books are better. I recommend An Unwanted Guest by Shari Lapena instead of this one for a winter lodge lock in style book.

Definitely a slower pace for the book than I was prepared for. And yes, the characters are awful, and you might kind of be relieved when some of them die. I honestly hated the name and premise of the company (Snoop) so much that it added to my dislike of the characters even more. I don’t know that it’s all that surprising who the killer turns out to be, but I appreciate that it wasn’t immediately obvious (to most of us) until much further in the story.

There is a massive crater in the plot .... how on earth did it get past the editors? Otherwise, decent rainy night read. But that plot hole....sigh.

Thanks a lot for the spoiler, Johnette53. I was looking forward to reading but should have skipped the comments, I guess.

I normally love reading Ruth Ware’s novels, but this was truly a struggle. I forced myself to finish this book. Usually you can identify with a character or characters, but I found them all unlikeable. Several chapters in I knew the murderer was Liz even though I didn’t know why she was killing off the others.

Don’t waste your time reading this book. I am sorry I did.

I skimmed through this book because the characters were not very endearing and the storyline was too farfetched and predictable. I do love most of Ruth Ware's novels but was disappointed with this one.

Started off good but then became so unbelievable that It lost a bit of interest to me. I still finished reading it, maybe a good beach read?

What a great book about people that work for the same company. It is a long book but don't think about sipping pages or you will miss some of the important parts of the story. Has lots of mystery and adventure that will keep you wanting to read more. Enjoy!!!
