Amy Whey is proud of her ordinary life and the simple pleasures that come with it, teaching diving lessons, baking cookies for new neighbors, helping her best friend, Charlotte, run their local book club. Her greatest joy is her family: her devoted professor husband, her spirited fifteen-year-old stepdaughter, her adorable infant son. And, of course, the steadfast and supportive Charlotte. But Amy's sweet, uncomplicated life begins to unravel when the mysterious and alluring Angelica Roux arrives on her doorstep one book club night. Sultry and magnetic, Roux beguiles the group with her feral charm. She keeps the wine flowing and lures them into a game of spilling secrets. Everyone thinks it's naughty, harmless fun. Only Amy knows better. Something wicked has come her way, a she-devil in a pricey red sports car who seems to know the terrible truth about who she is and what she once did.

Being made into a mini-series

A thrilling cat and mouse game - I loved the storyline and how the author creates such a film-like story with her writing.

Fans of twisty mysteries will enjoy. I thought this one was interesting in how it dealt with redemption for past bad actions, but was not a fan of the way one of the twists was handled. Still, an entertaining read.

It was very entertaining to read about two personalities challenging each others' potential for darkness which only meant that all other characters were rendered useless. Despite the unexpected plot twists, the ending was too neatly packed and delivered for my liking. Maybe if the secondary characters had an actual role in the novel, there could have been a potential to convince the reader?

I found this book extremely hard to put down. Jackson is very descriptive and keeps the story going at a very fast pace. I can't wait to read more from her!

First of all, I'm going to start with a trigger warning... maybe several trigger warnings, honestly.

This was a great suspense novel because Joshilyn did such a great job at developing a female villain character outside of the sci fi fantasy genre. The book focuses on outskirt topics like guilt and overeating struggles while mixing in the lives of less-ordinary-lives characters. The bigger plot, which I don't mention here, is what drives readers to have a hard time putting the book down. Joshilyn's one of my favorite authors because of her ability to develop such strong characters and a strong plot in her novels.

But again... trigger warnings galore.

2019; William Morrow/HarperCollins Canada, I was pretty much hooked at book club! This is a "mommies in the neighbourhood" book club and they are big on drinking and being away from the kiddies for awhile. Reading the book seems to be optional - though with titles like Bleak House and House of Mirth, alcohol may be more of a need. The book club also reminds me of Desperate Housewives meets Survivor as there seems to be drama, secrets, different alliances and many games.

When a new member/neighbour shows up, and literally barges her way through taking over the meeting, Amy smells trouble brewing. Only Amy and Char, the book club leader and Amy's best friend, seem to know she is trouble. As Roux, the new cunning neighbour pours alcohol into the women she starts a game like "Never Have I Ever". She extracts their secrets and Amy is wonders how far Roux will go. Unfortunately, for Amy she will know how far Roux will go, but if she can find out why, maybe she can save herself and those she loves.

What a crazy ride! It is the ultimate cat and mouse game that is so psychologically satisfying! Okay, I am going to stop using exclamation points now. I have read a few of Jackson's previous novels, and have enjoyed them. When I read the synopsis of this novel, I could see this was different than her previous books. She writes more of literary fiction, so I was excited to see her change over to domestic suspense. I have come to the conclusion that she is great with characters and plot no matter the genre. I didn't even think about how this would end as I was enjoying the game happening in the present. I don't want to say too much in case I give away spoilers. All I can say is if you are looking for a good writing and a fast read, try Never Have I Ever!

Lots of psychological games between two women who both have a lot to lose.

A New & Noteworthy pick. Here’s a cat-and-mouse thriller that you won’t be able to put down. I never saw the end coming. Jackson's first thriller and it’s addictive.

Could NOT put this riveting, engrossing book down. I have enjoyed all Joshilyn Jackson' books, but this one is the best so far.
