Alicia Berenson's life is seemingly perfect. A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London's most desirable areas. One evening her husband Gabriel returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face, and then never speaks another word. Alicia's refusal to talk or give any kind of explanation turns a domestic tragedy into something far grander, a mystery that captures the public imagination and casts Alicia into notoriety. The price of her art skyrockets, and she, the silent patient, is hidden away from the spotlight of the tabloids at the Grove, a secure forensic unit in North London. Theo Faber is a criminal psychotherapist who has waited a long time for the opportunity to work with Alicia. His search for the truth leads him down a terrifying path and threatens to consume him.

I agree with a couple of the other reviewers - this is way over-hyped and nothing special. Yes, there's a plot twist near the end, but that's not enough to make up for so-so writing, shallow characters, and clunky plotting.

Disappointing ending - twist came out of left field and was pretty unsatisfying

This one had its hooks in me pretty quick and it had a lot of extra elements that appealed to me personally, like Psychology and Greek mythology.

An average read! Can't see what a hype was all about.

This is a true psychological thriller. As Theo's investigation into the mind of a silent, but tormented young woman progresses, we see different sides to the central event, culminating in what is truly a masterful and well-crafted plot twist. You won't be disappointed!

As saturated as the "psychological thriller" sub-genre is now, this particular book I thought was a standout. This might be the only book where I literally said out loud "a-ha!" when I realized what the twist in the story was. Recommend!

What a roller-coaster of a ride! Psychological thriller par excellence. Really looking forward to reading what Alex Michaelides writes next

I loved the suspense in this book, a new kind of twist. I would read it again.

Lots of interesting comments about this book - from waste of time to just great. Found it easy to read and intriguing - really do not see how some of these people saw this ending coming. Guess you will have to read and come to your own conclusion.
