Bad acting, plot holes, but quite entertaining.

Such BAD acting - especially by the grandfather and "daughter" who looked liked she could be his wife. No chemistry between main character and the potential love interest. Liked the CGI though and to be honest it was easy to watch. These fusion USA - China productions do not work well.

More of an adventure than action film with Jason vs the Megalodon that is loosely based on the 1997 book "Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror," a science-fiction horror novel by Steve Alten. With the exception of the little girl, not much chemistry among the rest of the actors. But it is not all about the humans but the Meg. Kudos to the CGI and the plausible sci-fi premise. Bonus showed how they simulated the water action scenes.

Megalodon.
- How big is that creature?
Between 70 and 90 feet. 21 to 27 meters. Megalodon is the biggest shark ever. It's not afraid of anything. It has no predator. The jaw is stronger than any animal. Meg can bite the whale in two, destroy the bone.

Jason as Jonas.
- A top-notch deep-sea diver/rescuer. "He's a drunk. He's lazy in Thailand ..."

Not a serious drama but an action film. If you like syfy movies then this one is like that but with better sets and special effects. It is an okay movie worth watching once but how much can you do with this genre? Not the fault of the movie. If you enjoy movies like deep star six or deep rising then you will probably like this one as well.

Pathetic. Science leaves the scene 5 minutes into the movie. A little credibility, please.
It would take at least a page to itemize the nonsense.
Acting ? Not required in this genre. The sets were well done though.
As for thrills, "Jaws" did it much better.

This monster film got some pretty bad reviews from film critics. My take is if you want to watch something that makes you think about life then The Meg is not for you. As a monster film with good CGI this one does the job. The first half is better, and the second half falters a little. Overall pretty decent in entertainment value.

There are 12 unforgivable sins in sci-fi movies that ruin them for me. Although this skirted one (put a young child or small animal in danger to freak you out) it avoided all the other 11 brilliantly. I wasn't edge of my seat tense, and I didn't jump every time the shark appeared, but it was a tense action packed story filled with good characters (not fabulously written dialogue but at least there was development and growth) and some fun CGI.

I either need to watch the movie or read the book. There are 5 books in this series. I enjoyed the movie but as usual the books are so much better than the movie. Seems like they tried to combine all 5 books into one movie.

28 quotes already posted in IMDb and they are good like this one from the little girl:
Jonas Taylor: You know a lot.
Meiying: Eight-year-olds hear everything.

Surprised that this one repeated in different ways has not been posted:

Suyin, what you said before, you were right. It's not about the people you lose. It's about the people you save.

Or:

I left my two best friends to die. I think about it all the time. Every day I replay it. Could I have done more?
-It's not just about the ones you lose. It's also about the ones you save.
