Rising Out of Hatred tells the story of how white-supremacist ideas migrated from the far-right fringe to the White House through the intensely personal saga of one man who eventually disavowed everything he was taught to believe, at tremendous personal cost. With great empathy and narrative verve, Eli Saslow asks what Derek's story can tell us about America's increasingly divided nature. This is a book to help us understand the American moment and to help us better understand one another.

Another similar book is "Fuhrer-Ex," by Ingo Hasselbach, a man who has truly turned his life around.

Compelling and provocative look at a hardcore white nationalist whose politics and views on a race start to evolve until he eventually leaves the movement he grew up in. What is most revealing is how a parents' noxious views can warp a child. Also check out "Everything You Love Will Burn."

An unsettling look into life of a former white nationalist, this book will challenge readers of all political backgrounds to examine the how we respond to hateful ideologies and those who promote them.

I'm a Nationalist and I don't hate anyone. I love freedom, the Constitution and limited Government. What is wrong with that?

This book should be mandatory reading for all those apologists for white supremacists (who hide under the guise of white nationalists). Unfortunately, those who need to read it, won't. After hearing Rep. King (R) defending those terms...I feel we are slipping backwards as a country. An excellent well-written book.

Fascinating. Very well written. Be sure to read the last two chapters to see how it all meshes with what's been going on in the U.S. since the (2016 national election.

Derek Black changes his mind when he is finds empathy from some of the people he and his white nationalist compatriots maligned. An incredible journey. A friend heard the author speak and shared her book with me. Page-turning.
