Okay, definitely not McCarthy at her finest. I felt she was indulging her ego as she is in every scene, and was obviously given carte blanche on this project. A few chuckles, but overall a tepid effort.

This comedic movie features many famous female leads such as Melissa McCarthy, Gillian Jacobs, Maya Rudolph, Julie Bowen, and many more. The movie is about a housewife whose husband just left her, so she decides to return to school and figure out more about herself. To her daughter’s dismay, they are attending the same college. I will say, that at some points throughout the film Melissa’s performance was more awkward and cringey than it was funny or endearing, which did make for some uncomfortable scenes. But, overall the movie was pretty entertaining and does guarantee at least a few laughs. I would rate this movie 3.5/5 stars. @The_Reviewer of the Hamilton Public Library Teen Review Board

Skip It - embarrassing situation about a mother returning to school and hanging out with her daughter's friends; that should say it all. I grew to like Melissa McCarthy films but this is not one of them. I found Mother is a Freshman (1949) with Loretta Young a lot more entertaining and truer to the issues of placing a mom and her daughter in the same school.

a cringefest of terrible jokes. I was embarrassed for the cast every-time they had to deliver one of their bad jokes that completely bombed.
Melissa McCarthy doesn't get a pass by blaming the script either, She wrote the damn thing.

It's setup like it's a comedy but the jokes just didn't come. At least, for the first act there's nothing. Melissa McCarthy isn't all that funny to begin with, but at least in her other films there are a few laughs. This one is like they wrote the plot and just forgot to put in the jokes. Or they ran out of time to pad the script with real jokes in it. In any case, it's rather tedious to watch a comedy that is absent of real jokes. A few mildly amusing moments later in the film, but by then you're completely bored with the movie, the characters, and the premise. Maybe it's the fact it's a pg-13 film and they just couldn't go far enough with the jokes. They played it safe and playing it safe in comedy is a bad idea.

Have to agree with most of the comments below, and for a comedy, there wasn't a real laugh in the first 30 minutes. I stuck with it, started rooting for Miss McCarthy, and was rewarded with a few titters, 3 giggles and a guffaw before the end.

It isn’t that bad of a movie although a bit pedestrian. All about a middle aged woman returning to college after a divorce. There were some good parts and it wasn’t offensive, just not rip roaring hilarious.

I never went into this movie with high expectations, but this was even worse than my low expectations. Melissa McCarthy is not terrible in her role, she has her funny moments, but overall, the script is just not good, the actress that played the daughter did not seem to act well in this movie and there are a few scenes and jokes that just drag longer then they should. Just a waste of time, there are much better easy watch films out there.

This was really awful. I didn’t find anything funny in it, although I have to admit that we didn’t make it the whole way through. It wasn’t worth it.

I agree for the most part with the comment below. I like Melissa McCarthy, but I didn't find this supposed comedy to be funny. She probably needs to be more selective in her roles, because this sure was a huge step down from Bridesmaids.
