An entertaining adventure story with a deeply unusual plot thread. Sympathetic characters, good place descriptions, and a fast moving storyline enhance this short novel. For upper el or tween readers.

I didn't expect a story revolving around an orphan and a woman planning her own death to be so hilarious and heartwarming. For fans of off-kilter adventure stories with a little bit of magic, this book has equal parts Charles Dickens and Neil Gaiman. I honestly can't think of another story line quite like it. Give it a try!
