It was a typical evening at a mall outside Portland, Maine. Three teenage friends waited for the movie to start. A boy flirted with the girl selling sunglasses. Mothers and children shopped together, and the manager at the videogame store tending to customers. Then the shooters arrived. The chaos and carnage lasted only eight minutes before the killers were taken down. But for those who lived through it, the effects would last forever. In the years that followed, one would dedicate himself to a law enforcement career. Another would close herself off, trying to bury the memory of huddling in a ladies' room, hopelessly clutching her cell phone until she finally found a way to pour her emotions into her art. But one person wasn't satisfied with the shockingly high death toll at the DownEast Mall. And as the survivors slowly heal, find shelter, and rebuild, they will discover that another conspirator is lying in wait -- and this time, there might be nowhere safe to hide.

This is a 5 star book in my opinion. Been reading Nora Roberts for years now and have to say this places among the top.
Caught my attention from the first and carried it through to the end! Strong characters, great plot!
Keep writing just like this Nora Roberts!!

Three teenagers decide to go on a rampage and shoot up the Rockport Mall. Selina Knox hides in the bathroom and calls 911. Reed Quarermaine finds a little boy and hides him, saving both of their lives. The shooters have shot and killed a lot of people, but are finally killed. Everyone tries to get on with their lives, but there is one person who want to kill the survivors because she believes they should have all died. The race is on to stop her while the body count is rising. This is a very good book from beginning to end

This book was way too long. I enjoyed the characters and the plot of the book, but it could have been done in a much more concise way.

This was a very good read with likeable characters. The killer was really bad and the hero was really good, which is the way it should be.

Not bad - much better than her other recent books. It could have been shorter. The mid-to-last third dragged. It was more an exploration of the two main characters that began when both were young. How events shaped who they each became. Much more of the male perspective, which I liked. Overall not a bad read if you are looking for forgettable beach fluff.

I’ve read many Nora Roberts books and have enjoyed most of them. Shelter in Place is by far the best! Wonderful read.

BORING. I read about 75% of it and finally gave up. I had no interest in continuing.

A good read about the way people perceive others in a twisted way sometimes. But in the end the heroes prevail. It takes survival skills in a world that sometimes makes you take a detour you never expected.

This book grabbed my interest from the first chapter and just kept rolling along. I enjoyed all the main characters and how they all interacted with each other (we all need a CiCi in our life) and the story was totally believable. It kept me interested from beginning to end. A very good read.

This is a really good book. Telling the tales of those involved in a mass shooting in a mall. Interesting characters who have the rest of their lives defined by this incident. Each of them are effected in different ways on how to cope and go on to live productive lives. However they find that death is still haunting them. You soon get drawn into their lives and you want to read until the end to see how this story ends.
