"An unspeakable crime. A confounding investigation. At a time when the King brand has never been stronger, he has delivered one of his most unsettling and compulsively readable stories. An eleven-year-old boy's violated corpse is found in a town park. Eyewitnesses and fingerprints point unmistakably to one of Flint City's most popular citizens. He is Terry Maitland, Little League coach, English teacher, husband, and father of two girls. Detective Ralph Anderson, whose son Maitland once coached, orders aquick and very public arrest. Maitland has an alibi, but Anderson and the district attorney soon add DNA evidence to go with the fingerprints and witnesses. Their case seems ironclad. As the investigation expands and horrifying answers begin to emerge, King's propulsive story kicks into high gear, generating strong tension and almost unbearable suspense. Terry Maitland seems like a nice guy, but is he wearing another face? When the answer comes, it will shock you as only Stephen King can."-- Provided by publisher.

Thank you Stephen King for a most impressive novel. The suspenseful plot, the unique characters and the inclusion of the great Holly Gibney from Mr. Mercedes kept my attention-I couldn't put it down! 5 Stars!!!

This was my first Stephen King novel and boy am I mad I had not read any of his work until now! I loved it so much and was surprised at how fast I got through it. It reads like a movie. King is a master at painting scenes so perfectly that you feel like you are right there. I was so surprised when I found it at the library. I figured this new release would've been no where to be found. Great find! My only draw back was the ending got slightly weak but that does not take away from the adrenaline I had reading the rest of the book. I am now seeking all of his other books and am a true fan!

This was a great book, like Kings early books: Salem's Lot and The Shining. The story is based on a Mexican legend I had not heard of before.. I liked the characters in this book, and I enjoyed Holly (Mr. Mercedes series), Bill's friend being brought into the mystery. That she brought the Happy Slapper was a great tribute to her old partner. I would love SK to write more about Holly and Ralph's working together. I too was sorry when I finished the book. Also, I am still waiting for King to write a real sequel to Salem's Lot.

Another amazing read by the master of horror. King is able to create an intricate story with vibrant characters. I couldn't put this book down and yet when I was done I was sad to close the book on some awesome characters. I just wasn't ready for it to end. There is a returning character from one of Stephen King's detective novels and that was a fun addition. Overall, very well done and highly recommended. Can't wait for the tv series that is already in the works.

I cannot think of an author in the history of all mankind who has written characters as well as Stephen K. The story, plot, theme, everything else practically matters not. For instance, who didn't start saying "cluster mug" after reading The Dome? Do you know one soul who did not accidentally drop a "Thankee Sai" after reading the Dark Tower? Can you honestly tell me you know a Stephen King reader who has not asked you to, "Pull up a rock and have a little palaver?" Anywho, the plot might could have been pedantic, predictable and plastic, but I wouldn't know because I don't pay attention to that. I'm way more intrigued how he can write a human being so real it's as if they are old friends.

Yes! Another favorite for my shelf. Stephen King put out another fabulous book just the way I like it -- almost too much for me to handle with superb writing. He pulled no stops and even snuck in his weird creepy humor... this one caught me and I had to read it a couple times just to enjoy the laugh.

"The respirator wheezed. Fred Peterson’s chest rose and fell. Every now and then he made a thick noise that sounded weirdly like a chuckle. As if it were all a cosmic joke, but you had to be in a coma to get it."

I loved coming across the Happy Slapper and Holly again too. Any mention of Bill Hodges brightens my day, and I absolutely loved how this story intertwined with Holly and Finders Keepers.

...there was this one part that I am dying to share but can't...just read it!

Enjoyed the first half but had to push myself to finish. The middle seemed to drag on.
