Stone Barrington and several friends are vacationing in Florida when extreme weather puts a damper on their trip. Even worse, the hurricane-force winds blow a powerful, noxious politician straight onto Stone's doorstep. Though they part ways before long, Stone soon learns that he hasn't seen the last of his new acquaintance. It turns out that this official has some shady associates who may have destructive plans afoot, and Stone needs an entrance to the inside to figure out their scheme. With the fates of nations at stake, Stone must summon all of his fearless daring to put an end to the audacious plot-- but this time he may be in over his head.

I was disappointed in this book. I read about about 40 percent of it and finally just decided not to finish it. I couldn't really care about the characters. The lead character has a number of shallow relationships with women, but often the women aren't really given much detail. There is a lot of detail about the lavish lifestyle lived by the main character which I found rather boring. The lead character is reluctant to take on the assignment, but we don't really get a sense of why that would be .

Too bad Stone only does well with sex and money. Too bad that's all that Stuart Woods thinks is of interest to the rest of us. I'm done with this author.

Beyond the fact that the villain of the piece is given a very small role, which was disappointing, I found this to be a fine commute read. The chapters are short, the plot is simple enough that you can pick it up several days later and not have forgotten a thing, and the high life of a wealthy man playing the spy is entertaining for those of us not among the 1%. Woods has written better books, but I didn't find this one nearly as inadequate as the previous reviewers did.

Perhaps this is the worst book yet, but he has had more than 6 failures to write "good books", over the past few years. I got to page 178 and hung it up. TERRIBLE BOOK!
