Few of any records of early birth, death, and marriage exist in civil records. There are scattered early records in various locations and most have been published in sources such as the "Pennsylvania Archives". During the period 1852-1855 the counties kept registers for these events. Many large cities began registering births, and deaths after 1860. Most counties began registering births and deaths in 1893 and continued to 1906.
