In my opinion, this book was only published because it was written by Krysten Ritter. It's a not-so-great thriller where the "twist" is obvious from about 1/3 of the way through. The added violence just serves as a reminder that this book is aiming more for shock value than valuable story. I was really disappointed but I also hope that Ritter takes in feedback on this novel and continues to write. The premise, as it was, sounded good - the execution faltered. Hopefully her second book has more depth to it.

I know Gone Girl was the big breakout bestseller, but I always had a soft spot for Gillian Flynn's earlier books, about troubled women returning to a disturbing childhood hometown and uncovering buried secret. And Bonfire feels very much of a piece with those, and books by Jennifer McMahon, so if you're a fan of those, you're in for a treat. And hey, as a Jessica Jones, Veronica Mars, and Breaking Bad fan, it was kinda cool to see that Krysten Ritter could hold her own as a writer, too! Some great turns of phrase helped liven up the dark subject matter.

Not a good book. Weak writing. Uninteresting character. The plot may be twisty, but it's really hard to care without writing or characters.

I read this for the "A Book You've Been Meaning To Read" part of my 2018 reading challenge. I mostly enjoyed this book, the twists kept me on edge but I found the finale still had some loose ends. It was a good thriller/mystery, fast paced, but kind of a generic storyline.

This one builds slowly, but the last 75 pages are easy to rip through, as things start to fall into place. I enjoyed it!

Fast read but a bit too heavy on the suspense tropes.

Decent mystery thriller, and good for a debut novel.

A really good legal thriller/mystery with a main character who is a hot mess. Much better than I was expecting and quite timely, where you have a corporation who buys a small town and is trying to hide many sins....
