Aging and reclusive Hollywood movie icon Evelyn Hugo is finally ready to tell the truth about her glamorous and scandalous life. But when she chooses unknown magazine reporter Monique Grant for the job, no one in the journalism community is more astounded than Monique herself... Regardless of why Evelyn has chosen her to write her biography, Monique is determined to use this opportunity to jumpstart her career. Summoned to Evelyn's Upper East Side apartment, Monique listens as Evelyn unfurls her story: from making her way to Los Angeles in the 1950s to her decision to leave show business in the late 80s, and, of course, the seven husbands along the way. As Evelyn's life unfolds, revealing a ruthless ambition, an unexpected friendship, and a great forbidden love, Monique begins to feel a very a real connection to the actress. But as Evelyn's story catches up with the present, it becomes clear that her life intersects with Monique's own in tragic and irreversible ways.

Loved this book. It actually felt like I was reading about an actual actress biography instead of fictional. Highly recommend to read. A great author.

This was so brilliantly developed that I forgot I was reading about fictional characters instead of Hollywood legends. This book helped bust me out of my reading slump. I loved it.

All of the buzz around The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo was definitely well deserved! The novel was captivating and very intriguing. I don't usually read adult fiction but I found this novel very compelling and I can't wait to read Jenkins' next novel.

Beautifully written, believable dialogue, jumping time frames well handled, likeable/lovable characters. One of my favorite read-again novels.

I laughed and I cried. Actually I cried a lot. I adored Evelyn and her story, she was a character. Dynamic, imperfect, raw, and real. While, yes I had to adjust to the frame work of the biography and Monique's role in the story, I enjoyed every minute I had this book in my hands.

A fun read! Evelyn Hugo is a great character, and who knew it would make sense to have seven husbands! An excellent book showcasing the complexities of human nature and relationships. A bit wacky, perhaps, but I enjoyed it. Two thumbs up!!
This would be a fun miniseries... hello, Netflix.....are you listening?

I enjoyed this book very much. I devoured it in two days. I found the central love story compelling, but it got a bit repetitive. The main characters do despicable thing, but remain likeable, always a sign of a good book.

I am a big fan of TJR and I should have never put off reading this book. It definitely veers away from what I'm used to getting from this author, but the quality of writing is no less than what I would expect. I found the story enthralling even though it was far and away different than what I had originally imagined. Actually, I'm not sure what I imagined? Seeds were planted early on in the story and I had thought I knew what to expect by the end and although I was correct on one account, I was blown away by another. Completely and unexpectedly, Blown Away! It truly is amazing how much I enjoyed reading this story when most of the characters are extremely self-serving. Only a writer I trust could pull this off. I will never again doubt the direction this author chooses to go and my enjoyment of it's content.

I describe The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo as a book that made me pick up the pieces of my broken heart. This book is gorgeously written, and Evelyn is such a memorable protagonist who's story is sad, but hopeful. I found myself so emotionally invested and the amount of times I yelled and cried reading this book is a testament to my enjoyment level. Easily one of my favourite books I read in 2018.

When u dig just the tiniest bit beneath the surface, everyone’s love life is original& interesting &nuanced& defies any easy definition.
Author to husband-thank u for understanding why bk so NB to me &4 being so into it. For being the kind of man who encourages me to shout louder, dream bigger, & take less shit. Thx for never making me feel i should make myself smaller to make someone else feel better. Our daughter’s growing up w a father who’ll stick by her side no matter who she is, & will show her how she should expect to be treated by modelling it for her. Evelyn nor I had that, she will, because of you.
