When single mother Devon Connor hires private investigator Elvis Cole, it's because her troubled teenage son Tyson is flashing cash and she's afraid he's dealing drugs. But the truth is devastatingly different. With two other partners in crime, he's been responsible for a string of high-end burglaries, a crime spree that takes a deadly turn when one of them is murdered and Tyson and his girlfriend disappear. They stole the wrong thing from the wrong man. Determined to get it back, he has hired a team that is smart and brutal. To even the odds, Cole calls in his friends Joe Pike and Jon Stone. But even they may be overmatched. The hired killers are leaving a trail of bodies in their wake. A few more won't make any difference.

Elvis Cole wasn't quite himself in The Wanted or at least, he wasn't the Elvis Cole we've come to know and love: irreverent with a smart mouth. Joe Pike was less than Joe Pike as well and he was treated as such as bit player as opposed to the overwhelming force he usually is.

The story about the 3 kids was interesting and not a bit out of the realm of possibility. The hunt for those kids dragged out a bit and many of the different 'leads' were somehow just gratuitous and felt like filler.

The Wanted was a bit of a cat and mouse, with of course, both Elvis/Pike and the bad guys both thinking they are the cat. We fans know who is which.

The Wanted is not the best Cole/Pike story but a worthwhile read, especially if you know the back story of Elvis Cole and Joe Pike.

4 Stars, solid B, with a wish it could be more

Good read. One of the better Elvis/Joe novels.

I am a huge Elvis Cole/Joe Pike fan, but this one wasn't my favorite. I had trouble distinguishing between the bad guys; I found the dialogue between them hard to follow, so I just referred to them in my head as Dumb and Dumber, or maybe Weird and Weirder. Elvis being a father figure was nice, but I've been reading about these characters for almost twenty years now, so my suspension of disbelief that Elvis and Pike aren't 70 years old is wavering. Anyhoo, there's always LA Requiem, which I could (and have) read over and over.

I am an Elvis fan. Good read, kept me up late to finish it so that for me is the ultimate compliment, couldn't put it down!

A fun read in the tradition of Robert B. Parker, this story provides another chapter in the ongoing adventures of PI Elvis Cole. Hired at first to look into the origin of an expensive watch found in a rebellious teen's room, the case quickly becomes much larger and much more serious. Desperately trying to stay ahead of two gotten and keep his teenaged charges safe, Cole and his sidekick Joe Pike manage to solve the case.

I enjoyed the book, it's fast pace and colorful characters, but would have liked to learn the ultimate fate of the two teens.

Another great book by Robert Crais.. Haven't read a book by him that was not enjoyable.

Another great one from Robert Crais! This time he's saving a couple of teenagers that are just having a lark stealing things. That is until two very nasty & aggressive individuals start chasing them for something they stole from someone. Joe Pike is in there helping Elvis as well. I always enjoy the action tempered with humor & compassion for others. When's the next one? No pressure though.

Elvis may have left the building but thank goodness he is still in the library. Another great story
by Robert Crais. I look forward to more in the future.

I didn't like it. it seemed that the characters in this book were just "the bad and the ugly".
