When Mirabella Matthews' Aunt Jolly dies unexpectedly and under mysterious circumstances Mirabella suddenly finds herself the new owner of a villa in the South of France. But with the inheritance come unexpected mysteries...and dangers. On her way to the villa, Mirabella is run off the road by a motorcycle, and that's only just the beginning. It turns out that Aunt Jolly had a past, and as the various men who were a part of it show up Mirabella must find out who can be trusted and who is using charm to mask the face of a murderer. Told with Elizabeth Adler's signature attention to detail, strong female characters, and luxurious setting, The Charmers is a page-turner of a novel that will keep you riveted up until the very last page.

I remember when I got excited when a new Elizabeth Adler novel hit the stands but this one makes about as much sense as beets and peanut butter. I am pretty sure that her publisher isn't reading any of her material: Mirabella who has inherited a villa in Antibes meets a woman on a train with whom she does not want to speak but offers her a place to stay and while they are in a Mazeratti on the corniche going to the villa they are driven off the cliff and the one person who helps them turns out to be a doctor who claims he also inherited the villa from her aunt who was murdered by a knife in her back. Oh, and there is a heavy set Russian called the Boss, also out to get the villa and a painting. And the whole thing starts on the Titanic. That will be your first clue. I never made it past page 40.

I expected some sort of investigation by this mystery writer but found only a wandering story line and nothing to keep me reading. It was my first and probably last Adler book.

I agree with earlier review - this was not a good book at all. Very disjointed and felt it was written by an unexperienced writer. Very simplistic. Will pass on other novels by her in the future.

I wish I could be kind because Adler early on was great, but sadly, no longer. Not even a pot boiler.
