wonderful wonderful wonderful....very creative and spawned so many movies

I got this book primarily for the short story "The Mist" to read while watching the new television adaptation on Spike TV. It is my first foray into Stephen King's large catalog of horror tales, and I now see why so many readers have been captivated by his dark and creative imagination. The Mist follows David and his son Billy who become trapped in a supermarket as a thick mist covers the town of Bridgton, Maine. Everyone who enters the mist never returns, and in a town full of secrets, David needs to discover the truth to protect his family from the danger that lurks outside. The story is suspenseful without too many jump scares, which I prefer, as the book is all about creating an atmosphere rather than relying on cheap gags or excessive gore. It was a perfect primer for Stephen King, and I can't wait to read more of his work over the summer. Highly recommended even if horror really isn't your thing.

For fans of Stephen King and fans of short stories. I had never read "The Mist" before, and wanted to read it before seeing the TV adaptation.

This is one of my favorite of Stephen King's short story collections. It features some of his creepiest stories. Ive read this at least 20 times and it still scares me. "The monkey" "Nona" "Gramma" are my favorites but their all great. Awesome read!!!!

Love his short stories. The best one is the book title, I thought, but most of the others good too.

Very good collection of short stories. I own this book as well adn I take it on various vacations even though i have read it over ad over maybe 10 times. Kings short stories are my favorite be/c they get right into the story, no fluff. It has to be/c its over so quick. Great visualization of scenes and interesting characters.
