Puts a human face on the horrors of addiction. I was glad that the book was not full of the myriad of gory details of the life of a heroin addict, but I certainly felt her emotional and psychological pain. This woman never completely lost her humanity and really wanted to get clean; sadly, that's not the case with all addicts. Most importantly, the author convinced me that supplying clean needles to addicts does save lives. She infuses the reader with greater understanding and compassion towards addicts. Her life of service helps keep her clean and sober.
