Is this a book that is recommended for teens? I read Claire of the Sea Light by Danticat and really liked it, This book seemed very repetitive and not for adults. It did not really draw me in but I did finish it.

It had some very pretty language and there were times it got me to tear up, but otherwise, this didn't connect with me emotionally as much as it should have. We spend too much time in Giselle's coma that her subsequent attempts at finding her footing seem a bit rushed. I may take a look at Danticat's other works, but only for her use of language, not really for anything else.

So many twin books these days! My favorite is One by Sarah Crossan, but on the tearjerker scale, Danticat's first YA novel still gets 4/5 tissues. Recommended for teens who loved If I Stay and The Fault in Our Stars.

Edwidge Danticat is a captivating writer, and her latest YA novel is no exception. Untwine is heart-wrenching and true, written in prose that is at times lyrical and at others sparse, creating a touching story of deep love and deep loss.

Untwine is, for the most part, a starkly realistic novel, and certainly always emotionally realistic, even though there are religious and supernatural elements to Giselle’s journey, including a connection between the twins that defies physics.

“The magician has not yet arrived with his box and his saw. We are not yet cut in half. We are still fully ourselves. We are still entwined. We are still whole.”
