Out of the corner of my eye, I catch something moving by the barn. When I look, it disappears. Wait. There it is again, at the cornfield. Some movement, some thing. Mom and I have been on the run for years. Every time he catches up with us, we move to a new place and start over. But this place is different. This place is full of secrets. And they won't leave me alone.

I absolutely adored this book! This was like, the best book ever. I have my own copy at home, and I read it every-so-often. I just love everything that happened, and it's an amazing psychological horror that actually reflects towards and for teens. The Dogs speaks to young adults in an eye-opening manner and really relates to kids. In the book, Cameron, a 16-year-old, has divorced parents. The story is based between him and his father, who is oddly and abnormally obsessed with him. This book satisfies all levels of horror for a young teen. The Dogs will be one of my favourite books of all-time.

This book was a little strange.
The home life of present characters parallel lives of the past. I wasn't sure which way the story was going because of the bad things happening in present and in the past.
I wouldn't say it was a bad book, just probably not my idea of excitable reading.

Young Adult novel about teen boy on the run with his mom from an abusive dad. He meets a ghost of young boy in a farm house who once had an abusive dad. The book is well written and suspenseful, the narrator (the teen boy) and the reader aren't sure if what is happening is real or not until the end. Very enjoyable!

After five years of being on the run from an abusive father/husband, Cameron and his mother move to an old, abandoned farmhouse in yet another new community, Wolf Hollow.
The peeling paint on the house, the missing boards on the barn and the all-around neglect give the property an air of desolation and foreboding.
In truth, it is a place full of terrible secrets from the past.
Almost immediately, Cam feels a distinctly creepy sensation in certain places on the property, especially in the basement and the barn. He soon begins to see and talk to a young boy who appears only to Cam, and who seems much too real to be a ghost. Sometimes he hears guard dogs barking and snarling somewhere on the farm - or he believes that he does.
Decades ago, a murder occurred on the property. The evidence was concealed and buried there. For some reason, Cam, with the help of the young ghost, is the only one who can find that evidence.
Cam becomes obsessed with solving the mystery of the murder, and he does ... but in doing so, he is drawn into the tragedy so completely that he sometimes doubts his own ability to distinguish what is real and true from what isn't. He has nightmares every night. He starts to wonder who he can really trust.
Can he even trust himself?
The many twists and turns in this thriller/mystery will definitely hook readers and keep them in suspense until the end.
** Recommended for ages 11 years and up.
