I love the world building in this book! Steampunk, zombies, pirates, action, adventure and steamy romance. This is the first book in a series.

This book has mystery, zombies, automata, airships, pirates and romance! What more could you ask for?

I love this world! The airships, the horde, the nanites and the alt-Earth setting are all really fun and interesting. The main characters are well written and I love their dialogue (among other things!) Rhys can be a bit macho for my tastes but Mina holds her own and overall I like them as a couple. The world building makes me want to explore and learn more and that is always a good sign. I am intrigued about the ancillary characters and excited to read their books as well. Overall this is a highly enjoyable steampunk romance read and a strong start to a strong series.

Book 1 of the Iron Seas series; preceded by 0.4 The Blushing Bounder and 0.5 Here there be Monsters (which in reality should be read after reading The Iron Duke to appreciate), and followed by an epilogue novella 1.5 Mina Wentworth and the Invisible City and then by book #2 Heart of Steel. This is a great book - sexy and adventourous - very, very steampunk but also very fun. Story about Mina Wentworth an Inspector, thrown into investigating a murder, where she meets the hero of the city, The Iron Duke aka Rhys. I loved the characters of this story - especially Mina; she was strong, intelligent, reliable and brave - I am totally NOT surprised that Rhys finds her so interesting. Rhys is great too, a very Alpha male who sometimes is a little too honest. Great beginning to a great series.

This was a great read. I thought the world was unique and interesting, as well as being familiar enough to be comfortable in. The main character is great, she's solid, practical and real. Read it! Looking forward to the next one!

Mina is an inspector with the Metropolitan Police Force. She is also half-horde, a product of a time when England was under the boot of the great Eastern Empire. This makes her a target for the vast majority of the population who are looking to take revenge for 200 years of oppression. But when a body is dumped on the stairs of the great Iron Duke, Mina becomes far more high profile than she ever wanted to be.

Now the publisher has categorized this book as a supernatural romance, but it is actually a steampunk romance, and before you dismiss this book, Brook's world building is strong, with characters that live and breathe off the page. Men and women are balanced, real characters that are interesting to read about. Yes there are sex scenes, at times more crude than romantic, but the focus of this book is the plot, not the angst leading up to the happy ending.

I tore through this book in a very short period of time. Always a good sign for me. Worth looking at.

I loved this book. The world setting is fresh and intriguing, something that is so hard to find these days.

The characters were well developed, the romance believable, and the story had a good, fast pace.

The only negative, if you want to call it that, was that the opening chapter was hard to understand - I had to keep going till I figured out the slang and situation, then I went back and reread it.

I really enjoyed the story and the characters. There were points where I was confused, and I'm not sure whether to attribute those to the book or to my limited experience with historical/steampunk romances. I read the prequel novella in Burning Up, so I had a little bit of background, but there were definitely times where I felt like I was missing something I should have known by that point. Rhys definitely stole my heart and I'm happy that he and Mina found each other. I look forward to trying more of this series and hope that Scarsdale finds someone eventually. He's too great of a character to remain on the sidelines!

Wow! Finding a book like this is always an amazing feeling. I didn't know what to expect going in, but from the first page I couldn't put it down - fabulous plot, characters, romance, world. And it even has zombies, what a bonus!
