Indexes to Probate Records, 1536-1858, and Surviving Will Books, 1644-1834Microform - 1950
Prior to 1858 all of Ireland was subject to the jurisdiction of the Province of Armagh for probate matters. The Prerogative Court had jurisdiction over all persons with goods valued at more than 5 pounds in more than one diocese. All of the original records of the Prerogative Court were destroyed in 1922. Only indexes and six will books containing copies of wills were salvaged. Some index books were damaged by water or fire, resulting in loss of some pages and staining of many surviving pages.
