As a mystery, it was slow paced and, somehow, even the parts that should have been nail bitters, weren't. Still, it was well written and easy to read. Interesting tie-ins to historical fact and fancy in regards to Butch Cassidy.

The main characters are by now old friends. The device of including Butch Cassidy and his peers from the 1890s and beyond really works. This is something I don't remember in Coel's earlier Wind River mysteries, and I've read most of them. However, this book has a problem for me. I had a very strong suspicion of who the murderer was long before the ending. I much prefer having that knowledge creep up on me. Other important mysteries remained, however, so the book was by no means a total disappointment. And both Vicky and Father John learned something new about themselves. This is something I always look for in a book, mystery or otherwise, and I appreciated that, too.

This book was much better than her others. I enjoyed the suspense and the characters were so real. Loved it!!!!

"Still the story persisted, along with a thousand other stories and rumors and what-ifs that drifted across time and kept the present a prisoner to the past."
