NSA director Theodore Anders has a simple goal: collect every phone call, email, and keystroke tapped on the Internet. He knows unlimited surveillance is the only way to keep America safe. Evelyn Gallagher doesn't care much about any of that. She just wants to keep her head down and manage the NSA's camera network and facial recognition program so she can afford private school for her deaf son, Dash. But when Evelyn discovers the existence of a program code-named God's Eye and connects it with the mysterious deaths of a string of journalists and whistle-blowers, her doubts put her and Dash in the crosshairs of a pair of government assassins.

Eisler delivers a strong plot as always, and carries the story with so much more skill than too many other McThriller writers. Too many of the characters are less than believable, in this case, the graphic contents a bit gratuitous, and the overall message comes across as too preachy. So - a mixed bag.

I like Eisler's style and despite the stereotypical characteristics of most of his characters I still liked them a lot. This book has something for everyone, including the awareness that the massive government surveillance and tracking of people described in the book is not entirely fiction! Great afterword with pages of supporting articles paralleling a lot of the scariest stuff in this novel.

Absolutely fantastic. Great read. Sounds like today's headlines, bu ta novel that gives content and explanation that you won't find easily elsewhere. A MUST READ for people who want to understand today's state of surveillance and its consequences for society.

I would not let my dog read this. He tried...I caught him under a blanket in his bed with the flashlight. Took the book right away from him! Would rot his brain! TV is way better. 1/2 a star because author can spell.

Come for the plot, stay for the 18-page appendix that outlines just how nefarious real-world surveillance can be. Evelyn Gallagher works for the NSA's camera surveillance and face recognition program, and alerts her boss when she notices a meeting between a reporter and an NSA official. They're targeted for permanent removal, and Evelyn...well, Evelyn may know too much, so she's in danger too. Tense and action-packed, this thought-provoking novel may have you considering just how far is too far when it comes to national security and surveillance.

Excellent thriller based on real-life threats to privacy from government, very relevant to current issue of FBI wanting Apple to circumvent it's security protections, theoretically to get info from one iphone.
