"Warm woolen mittens" and breathtaking scenes of the beautiful Salzburg Alps make this a winter film must watch. In addition to memorable music and a great performance by Julie Andrews, this is a touching story set on the eve of WWII that earned five Academy Awards.

Christopher Plummer used to refer to it as "The Sound of Mucus". Too saccharine for me. I saved a lot of time by fast forwarding through the cheesy singing.

How could ANYONE not love this movie? Perfect performances by everyone, especially the late Christopher Plummer (God rest his soul) and Julie Andrews but everyone was wonderful. Everything about "The Sound Of Music" is amazing; the scenery, the dancing, the singing. It's romantic, hilarious, a little suspenseful and an absolute classic.

A feel-good musical (set against a very serious background), the movie is sheer comfort for me. My favorite Julie Andrews film, this movie is also at the top of my Rodgers and Hammerstein collaborations. Young, optimistic Maria is a breath of fresh air to the Von Trapp family, still living in a trance after the passing of their matriarch years before.

The Sound of Music is an classic musical that features an amazing cast. Set right before World War II, Maria (Julie Andrews) wants to be a nun in the convent but she is sent to nanny seven kids. She lightens up their home and makes music a part of all their lives. Soon there are troubles arising, they are on the run from the most dangerous people Nazis and falling in love was something she never dreamed of (Christopher Plummer). This 175 minute movie is the perfect video to watch with family. The movie touches themes of self-doubt, independence and teamwork. Would recommend this movie for eight year olds and up because it touches on mature content, war but not violence, and snitching.

The Sound of Music is a classic musical, and, in my opinion, one of the best! It is unique, creative, and superbly performed. The characters are all very endearing, and the story line is continuously entertaining. The music is beautifully sung, and very catchy. Maria, the main character, is so likeable, and all of her endeavors are fun to watch. Some aspects of the film are quite dated and ridiculous, but the overall movie is very enjoyable. I would definitely recommend this movie to all audiences! It is great for people of all ages, and the story never gets old! 4/5

When my husband and I were dating, I told him that there was a sequel to "The Sound of Music," and it was all about their journey over the Alps, and then I totally forgot I'd told him that. Years later, we were trying to pick a movie, and he was all, "Let's watch "The Sound of Music 2!" I was like, "Um, WHAT?"

Anyhow. It's a great movie filled with fantastic songs. A classic that's worth being a classic.

A classical musical. Worth watching again since I think I was a child the first time I watch it. But be prepared to watch a show where the man has 7 children by another women which means he is no virgin and the women was trying to become a nun which pretty much means she was a virgin and now she gives up becoming a nun to marry this older man. She is also going to be happy taking care of the 7 children when he goes off and does what he wants to do. A real classic.

Produced and directed by Robert Wise in 1965 adapted from the 1959 stage musical of the same name, this American musical drama depicts the life of a young Austrian postulant in Salzburg, Austria, in 1938 who serves the seven children of a retired naval officer and widower as governess.
The breathtaking landscapes, the dazzling performances, and the world's best-loved songs all look and sound better than ever in this fully restored and digitally remustered DVD release of the most popular film of all time!

🌽⚾️ The Observer has seen this drippy movie three times, trying to figure out what people like about it, without success, unless it's sheer sentimentality. Don't waste your time.
