The Karate Kid
Blu-ray Disc - 2010

Opinion
From Library Staff
This 80's classic is perfect for older teens and families altogether. Watch Daniel's (Ralph Macchio's) transformation from the bullied new kid to karate hero, thanks to a little help from martial arts master, Mr. Miyagi (Noriyuki 'Pat' Morita).

Add a CommentIn real life, any instructor like instructor Kreese should have his/her Si-Fu title and license to instruct students revoked. Teaching & ecouraging abuse of power is NOT acceptable in martial arts - no honor. Remove Kreese, corrupted instructor, from this story then the rest of the movie with Pat Moriati & Ralph Machio is inspiring. The antagonist may be a corrupt student. I wish this world had more Mr.Miagis.
An American classic that I've been meaning to see. Upbeat tale about a transplanted Jersey Boy who gets met with bullying from the (mostly blonde) California beach kids. The unassuming apt handyman turns out to be a gifted karate teacher who takes the boy under his wing. Occasionally hokey but also notable for its sweetly innocent love story, with Elizabeth Shue playing the rich girl who defies her parents and packs her own punch.
An 80's classic, and just a great movie overall. Wax on, wax off!
On the surface this appears to be a run of the mill teen/martial arts movie, but it is far more. Daniel is a bullied teen, unwillingly transplanted from New Jersey to Los Angeles when his single mother gets a new job. Mr Miyagi, the building maintenance man, becomes his reluctant karate teacher, then mentor, and ultimately his best friend, as unlikely as that might seem between a teenage boy with a chip on his shoulder and a Japanese-American war veteran with a painful past. Karate Kid II was an adequate sequel, where more of Miyagi's past is revealed, but the most worthy successor is the Cobra Kai series on YouTube Red.
I enjoyed the movie. Ralph and Pat did a good job acting. Recommended.
Classic 80's movie.
This movie here has a special place in most of our hearts and will always be considered a classic. As one of the true 80’s icons it becomes apparent than not many people haven’t seen this movie, only exceptions being the young kids that grew up with Jaden smith as their Daniel san. Scenes from this movie prove to be unforgettable and always referred to in pop culture wether it be in music, comedy, internet, movies, or anywhere else. The amount of excitement one feels when witnessing the conclusion of all of Daniels training in his final fight against Johnny is unamountable by any other classic fighting movies except for possibly rocky, which ironically had the same director, who knew. The actors including Ralph Macchio and Pat Morita perfectly encompass their characters and show the bond between teacher and student in an incredible way. Although many critics might give this movie a hard time no doubt it is one to be written in the history books, and you’ll never forget to wax on then wax off. I completely recommend to see this original film, I give it a 8/10 rating. - @magicsoup of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library
This movie was great! I liked getting to know both Mr. Miyagi and Daniel better during the movie and seeing how the characters changed as the movie progressed. Mr. Miyagi is a really fun character and I love the relationship between him and Daniel.
Love this movie. Ralph is a great actor and is soo cute. Best movie out of all three. Five Stars.
This movie is awesome. Ralph Macchio did a great job, I could not see anyone else being the karate kid. :)
