I can see there are issues with the hpl website. I am here reviewing the two-part version of Dr. Z with Keira Knightley. This was the first one I saw (i had hoped for the 1960s one first with Julie Christie and Omar Shariff, but drats, it failed to come in). What i have to say is that it is raw, heart-renching, and undeniably good. Some questionable matters with regards to Keira Knightley's clothes (didn't sculpt her body as the 1910s styles are supposed to). Thought there were a few too many and unnecessary sex scenes (not just betweeb Yuri and Lara but also Yuri and his wife, Tonia)...don't know why, my face kept burning up. Emotionally, i would have to say this BBC adaptation excels. I didn't just see the pain of marital infidelity and of extra-marital heartbreak, but also the coarse and brutal side of war, from Russia's perspective. Very good, but I do enjoy watching David Lean's motion picture.

Good story. Poor casting. Tired of KN's faces early on. I suggest getting the 1960's movie instead of this.
You may notice that some of the favorable ratings here are really for the movie and not for this tv miniseries. People who don't understand why the miniseries is getting poor ratings should watch it and not just rate the excellent move here.

I enjoyed this mini series very much. Very complex emotional story. It sometimes is an effort to see past the "soap opera" aspect of this story. Good acting and interesting scenery.

Effectively more like a stage play---and without the music not even near as good original with Omar Sharif and THE Julie Christie!

I must admit that the story has always left me cold. I'm not big on grand passion as an excuse to chuck your responsibilities. In comparison to the older version, this one is no worse, and does clarify some things that are confusing in the earlier film.

Good movie and sad story. Interesting look at what it was like during the war and revolution in Russia. I would recommend this. It is long (that's b/c this version was a TV miniseries), but it held my interest. I'm interested in seeing the 1965 movie now.

A great movie. It should have won the Oscar for "Best Movie" in 1965.

It seems the director has not read the roman. Even Keira Khightly looks like a patient in Dangerous Method. Pity. The roman is great. The movie is a total disaster.

It should be rated R instead of PG-13

A more detailed version than the Original. Though not as intense or Passionate. Gotta give props to Omar on that one. Though Keira was an excellant replacemaent for Julie.
