One of the cheesiest but most lovable entries in the prime universe Star Trek movies. By all reckoning, the premise should be obsurd. An alien who's presence cripples technology, arrives on earth demanding to speak with extinct whales. At about the same time the crew of the former Enterprise return home in a stolen Klingon warship. Kirk and crew decide to go back in time to capture said whales and bring them to the future. Even with the ridiculous plot, it would be hard not to love this movie. It's comedic, light hearted, and even though it was made in the 30 years ago, the time travel aspect prevents it from seeming dated. After all, they were travelling from the 2280's to the 1980's.
Pity makers of film didn't implicitly say if Saavik was pregnant by Spock from Star Trek III.
Still it was a well balanced film.
This is the one with the whales.
Sure there's some corny dialogue and bad acting, but there's some great moments and humorous scenes that save the predictable desperation & resolution of the film's plot. The self-deprecating references to the narcissism & outdated technology of present society are well scripted.
