Beginning with the Great Pyramid of Giza - the only ancient wonder that has survived to the present day - this episode of In Search of History spotlights some of humankind's most incredible achievements. Period art and modern reconstructions bring long-vanished monuments back to life, enabling viewers to gaze upon the 100-foot-high Colossus of Rhodes, the Temple of Artemis at Ephesus, the towering terraces of the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, and the massive Statue of Zeus at Olympia. The fragmentary remains of the Mausoleum of Maussollos at Halicarnassus are also presented, and contemporary accounts of the tragic destruction of the Lighthouse of Alexandria in the 14th century are included.
