Elephant wakes up grumpy. I love the page where he has an angry black cloud over his head and comes stomping down the stairs; I can really relate to how he is feeling there. But when Elephant receives a present, he feels better and wants to help when others are feeling badly. What I like about this book is that it has repetitive, fun sentences that keep the reader interested and invested in reading. This book shows the value of friends caring for each other in hard situations. At the end of the book, you could encourage your child to make something for their friends and family members. I recommend this book for ages 4 to 6. If you like this book, check out the author’s other books in this series, called “Hooray for Books!” and “Hooray for Today!”

One of our family's favorite read-a-loud books. (And we have read a lot of books.) Our kids ages 2-6 all enjoy this story and like to join in the "Hooray for Hat!" part of the story.

An inclusive story about sharing and friendship. Super fun read-aloud as it allows children to shout Hooray with you!

Brian Won's book is fantastic for little ones. The colorful animals combined with themes of emotions and generosity make for a exuberant time.

This book is bright, colorful and fun with lots of hats! There are two wonderful repeated lines the kids can jump in on "Hooray for Hat!" and "Go Away! I'm Grumpy!" The whole story will have everyone feeling happy and in need of a really nifty hat.

In this playful, upbeat debut, friendship (and some jaunty accessories) offer the cure for a common complaint: grumpiness. After Elephant wakes up on the wrong side of the bed, he opens his door to discover a gift box containing a stack of crazy, colourful hats. Donning the entire pile makes his bad mood vanish, so Elephant eagerly distributes the funky headgear to Zebra, Turtle, and various other grouchy friends. With each visit, a grumbled "go away! I'm grumpy!" quickly turns to a gleeful cheer of "hooray for hat!" Young readers will want to cheer right along.

Shows the concept of sharing and making friends feel better.

Could be told comically to bring out lots of laughs by piling hats on top of one another (as shown on the elephant) and then taking a hat off the pile each time one is given away to a friend.
