Reveals humanity's trancelike relationship with technology. Footage of nonverbal human portraits and communication reveals a constant stream of unconscious emotions, barely noticed by most people. The protagonist, a wise gorilla, sagely witnesses the antics of homo sapiens.

No plot, no dialog, just a bunch of faces (and in one interlude, hands) shot in gorgeous black and white, often in slow motion, set to a Philip Glass soundtrack. If this sounds dreadful to you, I understand. But if you just want to stop thinking and let the wonder in, it's worth a look. One scene in particular, a slow motion study, in close-up, of the emotional reactions of each face in a group of people watching something in a theater is one of the most fascinating things I've ever seen on film.

A series of portraits of people staring at something. Are they staring at the image of a gorilla staring at them? Why is there such a broad range of facial expressions? Are we being asked to better share the Earth with the other creatures that live here? A work of art that is a much or as little as you make it.

"Koyaanisqatsi" and "Powaqqatsi" were the better works by Godfrey Reggio. "Visitors" pales in comparison. Staring at faces for more than half the movie doesn't do it for me.

Visitors is like a meditation. Each individual viewer will have their own unique experience. The film is without words, surreal and completed by the music of Philip Glass. One review suggests the film invites us to look at the world as a tourist from another planet might see it. Check out the trailer.

Terrible. Forget what the film description says because what you will actually be seeing is about 75 or so, nearly completely static images played with the same droning music track. It's like a really really really bad Stanley Kubric imposter trying to work their magic with still images. Take the cover photo from the box for example....they show that girl's face for 45 seconds, and as with 90% of the images shown, she remains almost completely still. That's it!!! It's beyond boring, and absolutely devoid of any real artistic talent. I'm of the opinion that art should always capture something...emotion, an event, even an idea.....something the viewer/listener can be engaged by and which makes them feel something -- ideally, very strongly. This disaster fails to meet my very minimal requirement to be considered art. There's nothing here folks. And when you listen to the extras, you'll be left wondering.....how did they possibly think that what they just showed conveyed any of the ideas they just mentioned? If you decide to watch this, watch the extras first, and you might get a little tiny bit more out of viewing the film....but not much. ;-)
