Shyima Hall was eight when her parents sold her into slavery. In Cairo, Egypt, she lived with a wealthy family and served them eighteen hours a day, seven days a week. When she was ten, her captors moved to Orange County, California, and smuggled Shyima with them. Two years later, an anonymous call from a neighbor brought about the end of Shyima's servitude, but her journey to true freedom was far from over. Now a U.S. citizen, she regularly speaks out about human trafficking and candidly reveals how she overcame her harrowing circumstances.

This book sucked me in on page one and didn't let go until I read it all in a single night. Highly recommend!

This teen biography is an amazing memoir of a young girl who was rescued from slavery. She was brought to the US illegally from Egypt. Justice was served although it took many years. This is a must read for many including a church small group or required reading for social studies classes. Especially valuable are the tips Shyima gives to identify people being held in bondage and her insight on how to help victims that are rescued.

In our modern age there is still child slavery in our society. Shyima was sold as a slave in her home in Egypt. This book tells her story rising from slavery to freedom.
