not my cup of tea. I expected more from this book what with all the reviews and hoopla. i suppose I am one of the few who thought this book was disappointing. I did not empathize with holly, I thought she was erratic, kind of an ass. she saw what happened and buried it, just wanted to have her idea of a perfect dark haired Rapunzel no matter what the cost. well the fairy tale turned into a nightmare and holly has herself to blame. what a nut. what was the matter with the husband. was he an ostrich as well, just bury your head in the sand and maybe the problem will disappear on its own?

Hard to believe that this entire book encompassed only one day - Christmas Day. I found some of the writing a bit repetitive. But while reading it, I was reminded a lot of the movie "The Ring". The storyline would certainly make for a very creepy movie. The whole time you feel something isn't quite right but you can't pin down what is actually happening.

Psychological thriller about an insecure woman who, not being able to have a child of her own, goes to Russia to adopt in a not so quite reputable orphange.
The plot line had me engrossed throughout ; the prose concentrated on the workings of the mind of the mother and leaves you clueless until the end. Well written - very good.

gripping, unsettling mindbender, in hindsight gives you all the hints but never betrays the ending. Nice job Kasischke!

I don't know about this book; there was something kind of off putting about it. I did like the writing style; sometimes her thoughts were as if I'd written them, but I just didn't feel the build up led to a very surprising ending; I saw it coming about half way through. I think I expected a more horror/paranormal type book. I did finish reading, but I almost didn't.

Something had followed them home from Russia...
With an opener like that, you can bet that it isn't going to be good...
No chapters just short breath-taking paragraphs that push you into reading page after page untill BANG- you get to the climax.

Thriller with an ending I didn't see coming. Good fast read.

"It's Christmas morning, and Holly Judge has woken hungover and blearily convinced that the trip she and her husband took to Russia years ago to adopt their daughter (now 15) is to blame for countless troubling and discomfiting events in the time since. Trapped by a blizzard at home with her daughter (once a beautiful, happy toddler, now a beautiful, sullen -- evil? -- teenager), Holly begins attributing sinister meanings to even commonplace activities. Is she delusional? Tired and over-anxious? Or is Tatiana truly... not right? Told entirely from Holly's own scattered, possibly unreliable point of view, this dark, eerie read ramps up the suspense in a way that may appeal to readers of spine-tingling psychological horror."
