This was a very good book. The descriptions of different foods and places were very vivid. Great depiction of life for friends and loved ones. The ending was touching.

I thought this was an excellent book. The more I read, the more I couldn't put it down, and I liked how it was written as a flashback from the POV of one of the main character's best friends. All this is especially impressive since it was Dubow's first book. If he writes another one, I'll definitely read it.

More of a cautionary tale than a story about a group of people. I thought the characters were truly horrible people & didn't care for them at all. However, I could not put the book down & was eager to know how the story ended - a huge credit to the adept storytelling of author Dubow.

Well, this book was alright. The story focuses around the Winslow family, but awkwardly the story is narrated by a family friend Walter. This seems very far-fetched at times, as the details he provides would be impossible to know. I think the story could have been much better served by having different characters narrate different sections. That being said, I did really enjoy the first section of the book. The way the author writes makes you feel like you are in the Hamptons and makes you want to be part of the summer fun. The book is a bit too smutty in the middle for my liking. And the ending is pretty poor too, obvious and not what is desired by the reader. I would encourage you to read the first section, as you would read a short story - but leave the rest behind.

Interesting book.

I found this novel & its characters curiously uninvolving, despite having myself grown up in the Hamptons. I knew right away what happened to Harry & his son.

The sophisticated, charming, talented Winslows - Harry and Madeleine - are a loving, much-loved couple generous with each other and with their friends. The introduction of beautiful 26-year-old Claire to their circle proves dangerous, however, as attraction turns to desire, and from there into Harry's betrayal of his wife. Told from the point of view of long-time friend Walter, this complex debut offers more than just a tale of adultery - rather, the natures of the four main characters unfold only gradually, adding an air of mystery to the slow-boil plot, which offers up some surprising twists (along with - fair warning - a few scenes of explicit sex).
