BFL begins with a great idea, but morphs into completely unbelievable. The script drops the ball when Jason Shepherd attains Marty Wolf's electronic organizer. For some reason, Wolf doesn't treat losing his organizer as akin to losing his wallet (or his mind); i.e., cancel everything & start fresh. After that moment, the film devolves into a typical money is no object, consequences are easily avoided, & anything goes mentality. The saviour of this film is Giamatti. Given the chance to encapsulate every negative, egotistical, pompous, & arrogant trait of every producer in Hollywood, Giamatti has, by all measures, fulfilled the stereotype to the point where the "cup runneth over." Giamatti's performance is an important reminder of the self-importance generated by the entertainment industry and the ease that their marketing successfully captures the fascination of the public's attention (& money); it's no different than professional sports - it's all fluff, & this film proves it.

Marty Wolf: Save me the sob story, Methuselah. I already sat through Platoon. Let's punch a hole in the sky, Grandpa - Go, GO, GOOOOH!!! Let's get a tail wind behind this bird, old-timer.
