Summary
Add a SummaryWithin the walls of Baalboden, beneath the shadow of the city's brutal leader, Rachel Adams has a secret. While other girls sew dresses and obey their male Protectors, Rachel knows how to survive in the wilderness and deftly wield a sword. When her father, Jared, fails to return from a courier mission and is declared dead, the Commander assigns Rachel a new Protector, her father's apprentice, Logan--the same boy Rachel declared her love for two years ago, and the same one who handed her heart right back to her. Left with nothing but a fierce belief in her father's survival, Rachel decides to escape and find him herself. But treason against the Commander carries a heavy price, and what awaits her in the Wasteland could destroy her.
At nineteen, Logan McEntire is many things. Orphan. Outcast. Inventor. As apprentice to the city's top courier, Logan is focused on learning his trade so he can escape the tyranny of Baalboden. But his plan never included being responsible for his mentor's impulsive daughter. Logan is determined to protect her, but when his escape plan goes wrong and Rachel pays the price, he realizes he has more at stake than disappointing Jared.
As Rachel and Logan battle their way through the Wasteland, stalked by a monster that can't be killed and an army of assassins out for blood, they discover romance, heartbreak, and a truth that will incite a war decades in the making.

Add a CommentStarted well, had me interested right away. Loved the action and adventure of it. Nearing the end, Rachel's character changed to being emotionless. And yes, I know it was because of all the trauma she endured. But I started to get sick of it.
Other than that, I think it is a page turner with a great story line. :)
Defiance is about a girl named Rachel who goes on missing when she learns her father is missing. She goes on a mission to attempt to find her father and since her father is gone her new protector is Logan, her father's apprentice. I liked this book. It was interesting enough to keep reading. The book alters between two people, Logan, and Rachel. Two years ago, Rachel gave her heart to Logan but he returned it back to her. Now she has developed feelings for him again and Logan seems to finally open his eyes to see what a great person Rachel is. This is the first book to the trilogy. I would read the next book by the author soon. 4/5 stars.

A good book focusing on a girl, Rachel, who refuses to accept her father's death and goes on a mission to find him. Rachel is somewhat reckless, but determined and tends to put those she loves in danger. Logan tended to surprise me with his genius inventions and ability to hide them.
Enjoyed the book. Good YA fantasy that leaves you ready for the next in the series.
I cant wait for the next book in this series!
Overall a pretty predictable book, but there were just enough unpredictable twists to keep me interested. I wasn't a huge fan of Rachel, in general, but I was pulling for her. It was a pretty fast read and I'll probably read the next one once it comes out.
Amazing book!!!!! I loved the plot, the characters, the setting and the pace. The plot was extremely interesting: A girl who's father is missing and pronounced dead. She is put into the care of her father's apprentice, who 2 years earlier she gave her heart too and had it handed back to her. They both promise to find her father while avoiding the power hungry leader of their city. The characters were well written and I loved them all. Rachel was strong, intelligent, and funny. Logan was also very intelligent and brave. The other characters such as Oliver, the commander, and Quinn were very well written and had unique personalitites. The setting is in a world that has been almost completely destroyed by a creature and continues to be terrorized. The pace was fast and the storyline had many twists. I loved this book and can't wait until the next one Deception comes out!!
A good read, but mostly predictable as to what will happen. I hope that the second one answers more questions and that the story isn't dragged out to make a trilogy.
Amazing story. Just when you think you figured out where the story is going, new plot twists. Could not put it down. Totally enthralling. I am excited for the sequel!
It started off really strong, and kind of plateaued. I was really into the characters and the plot, but halfway through the characters seemed to stagnate. Same thoughts, with no new depth added. The plot remained interesting, but I began to be indifferent toward the characters. Worth reading, but just not an exceptional book.
