Another great addition to the Inspector Montalbano series. I enjoyed this book even though I already knew the ending. Usually I read a book before watching the movie or television series based on it, but that wasn't the case this time. I have viewed quite a few of the episodes from the Italian television series, "Detective Montalbano", based on Andrea Camilleri's novels (all with English subtitles). Luca Zingaretti stars as Inspector Montalbano. "The Scent of the Night" is in Series 4. What can I say? I love both the books and the TV series - I only wish they'd never end!

Utterly charming. Salvo reminds me of Louise Penny's Armand Gamache, and Michael Connelly's Hieronymous Bosch... wise and smart detectives, each with a heart of gold. A great book for all the right reasons: plot, character development... and bonus humor! The early on scene where 3 detectives are trying to avert being shot by the old guy is hilarious! Highly recommended!

This is the sixth book in the series featuring Inspector Montalbano. Here, there are a bunch of upset people in town because they invested their money with a man named Gargano who has disappeared along with their money. It came to Montalbano's attention when one upset elderly man took an employee of Gargano's hostage. As usual, there are things that bother him about what people say and do and that leads him to recheck information and find the truth. The title comes from a description of the one witness that everyone else dismissed, as he describes his way of telling time.
On the personal side, he is worried about his relationship with his girlfriend Livia, and has a violent reaction to the loss of one of his two places that he goes to think.
