To list the major campaigns Admiral Halsey helped lead is to glimpse the entirety of the struggle against Japan during the Pacific War. He led or participated significantly in the Navy's first offensive strikes of the war against the Marshall Islands and Wake Island, the Guadalcanal campaign, and the occupation of Japan. As a commander, he never shied away from enemy engagement, but always boldly entered into battle, ready for a fight. Here, historian John Wukovits illuminates the life of a man whose daring tactics and quotable wit made him the Navy's most attractive public relations phenomenon during WWII. The Associated Press wrote at the time that Halsey "was all the United States Navy needed." Europe had Patton; the Pacific had William "the Bull" Halsey.

It looks like I'm the first to comment on this book, (I think most people don't so I understand that).

I read about different commanders in WW2 and started reading about Naval Admirals, while Halsey was controversial I think he was essential in the Pacific as they needed a one who wasn't afraid to take the fight to the Japanese. This was much needed at the time because others were hesitant to lose any ships especially in the aftermath of Pearl harbor but Halsey saw it differently to take the fight to the them.

Without this attitude the war in the Pacific would most assuredly went worse, even more Halsey was adamant about supplying the Marines and Army with more supplies and men.
the commander he replaced was not and sat on his hands.

Great book and made me look at this great admiral in great admiration for this man, the Patton of the Pacific.
