A collection of four movies with the Kettles, starting with their first appearance in supporting roles in the Egg and I. In Go to town, when Pa wins a jingle-writing contest, he and Ma head for New York City where they get in trouble with gangsters. In the Further adventures, they move into the new house they won that is filled with modern conveniences that confuse Ma and Pa almost as much as they help them. In Back on the farm the Kettles leave their ultra-modern home and return to the country looking for uranium.

🐔 Hardly the high water mark of American hillbilly humour, the Kettle films were mostly set in Cape Flattery, Washington, not where we usually think of hillbillies abounding. The characters were spun off from "The Egg and I," and Pa's comic Indigene farmhands Crowbar and Geoduck usually steal the show. This volume doesn't contain the best entry in the series, 1954's "Ma and Pa Kettle at Home."
-
Marjorie Main was in a truly funny hillbilly film, "Murder, He Says," as Ma Fleegle, who keeps her deranged brood in line with a bullwhip.

See below ⬇️ for the comment so nice, they made it twice!

This "Ma & Pa Kettle - Volume 1" DVD contains four engaging comedies (involving the Kettle Clan) spanning from the years 1947-1951.

The Kettles are a hillbilly family of seventeen members (Ma, Pa, and their 15 kids). When Pa unexpectedly wins a slogan-writing contest they all move into a model-home-of-the future (which is the grand prize). And, from this point, onward, their lives are, literally, turned upside-down, inside-out, and, yes, topsy-turvy, too.

For the most part - These vintage pictures from Universal Studios (which all have running times of about 78 minutes) are actually quite an enjoyable view due (of course) to the comical performances of both Marjorie Main and Percy Kilbride as the 2 lead characters.
