I love Australia and New York and both are featured in this funny, feel good film. Might be too risque for kids, depending on what life is like at home.

This film would have gotten a 5 when first seen 20 yrs. ago, but now I see that the entire movie is kept heightened by sex, sex, and more sex in their actions, the way they talk and the scarcity of the costumes chosen. It's all about gettin' the girl.

NYC: "Imagine 8 million people wanting to live together! This must be the friendliest place on earth." Keep in mind this was filmed back in the 80s, so there’s lots of big hair/too much makeup/tacky polyester outfits. If you can accept the fact that a sophisticated New York photojournalist can live happily with a cheerfully macho, Outback-bred hunter, then enjoy this lighthearted film, where love proclaims itself in an “only in New York” kind of ending. There are some cute cultural mismatches, like when he climbs a light pole to suss out his hotel location, stares uncomprehendingly at a high-end Italian restaurant menu (primo plati, etc.), misunderstands what a coke user is doing, and treats everyone (i.e., supposedly subordinate hotel staff, limo driver) as equals.

It's been awhile since I've seen this, I got this out for my 9 year old son and I got a bit of a shock at some of the content. There are references to drug taking, being drunk, and some lewd coments / behaviour. I found myself reaching for the remote a few times and wishing I had vetted the movie beforehand. My son enjoyed the movie but I do think it is a PG and I don't reccommend anyone under 12 watching it.

This is a fun movie. Really put a spotlight on Australia that I think wasn't previously there. Just a fun, feel good 80's flick.
