I love any movie that has to do with school and/or dancing, so this is one of my favorites! It's very "80's" in regards to the music and the styles, but it's very well-acted. Many hilarious moments as well as sad. Kevin Bacon was great as Ren, a boy from Chicago who has trouble understanding why the small town of Bomont won't allow dancing. In a story of perseverance, he takes his fight to the city council in order to persuade them to allow the seniors their time to dance. This one will definitely have you dancing in your living room!

VERY GOOD 1984 film with small mid-West country town that fun forgot being challenged when big city Kevin Bacon moves there and attends high school.
Interesting conficts, romances, and characters - and terrific dance scenes.

In general, I prefer the original to the remake, though after seeing a lot of Kevin Bacon movies, seeing him as a young kid feels kind of awkward.

It's hard enough being the new kid at school. Add to that moving from a big city to a small town that doesn't allow rock music or dancing. Poor Ren. Pretty much everything about the original Footloose is wonderful: the cast, soundtrack, dancing and the game of chicken with tractors (don't try that at home). I have no interest in ever seeing the remake.

What's not to love about this "coming of age" movie? Great dancing, great music, and, best of all, John Lithgow playing a man of the cloth!
