The Hobbit, the Desolation of Smaug

Well as you can probably tell from the rating, I thought this movie was stupid. The cinematography and Bard were the only upsides. Everything else was horror-worthy. My inner Tolkien nerd was literally throwing up all over the place at how much Peter Jackson ruined the wonderful book known as The Hobbit. So... the only thing that was good was their portrayal of Bard the to-be dragonslayer and Thorin. And everything else was bad. Just bad. The barrel scene was very stupid. I recommend skipping it.

Good action and effects. This 2-disc special edition dedicated an entire disc to behind the scenes special features which were interesting. This is the 2nd installment in the "Hobbit" trilogy.

Pretty decent movie, the 2nd of the Hobbit film trilogy. A 2nd LOTR trilogy seems a little bit over kill, however, Hobbit fans probably don't mind. It's nice to finally see the LOTR made into outstanding movies. Read the books back in early '70's, (if you think the movies are long, try reading the books, a guilty pleasure). Definitely worth watching all 6 movies in the series. As a bonus the New Zealand locations/scenery are spectacular, top notch. And Smaug is probably the best dragon in movies. Just sit back & enjoy.

The movie is good but it did not live up to the book.

Good production quality, acting, & effects, but the 3 film series is almost 7.5 hours of non-stop fighting, and though it's done pretty well, it's the just the same thing, over, and over, and over (and over). After a while, since you know exactly how the fight scenes will go, and progress (with all the Follywood clichés, e.g. NOTHING will kill the main bad guys until the end, and certain people are "sacrificed" regardless), the circumstances each confrontation takes place in, just become a blur, with the same responses and 'clichéic' dialog. In fact, some of the arguments/disagreements/conflicts within the group seem very manufactured, and are just done over & over, after they've been resolved. More time could be spent on the story, and the whole thing done in half the time.
I also feel that the 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy does this to a certain degree, but there is much more regarding the story, and some change ups.

The best of the trilogy, and Benedict Cumberpatch's performance as Smaug is a treat to watch. I'm okay with the inclusion of Legolas and Tauriel, but the romantic triangle seems a little forced.

great movie but i suggest you get the battle of the five armies and the desolation of smaug at the same time because it end in big cliffhanger

Good movie, but I don't think of it as the Hobbit. Just a completely separate thing. I hated that they added Tauriel, and Legolas isn't in the book either.
