Reed Fish seems to be leading the life he's supposed to. Followed in the footsteps of his late father, Reed does an early-morning radio show with the town's mayor, Maureen. He produces the show with his old high school buddy, Frank, and he is engaged to be married to another friend from high school, the gorgeous Kate. Kate's dad seems to own every business in town. But Reed's plans are upended when his high school sweetheart, Jill, comes back to town. Supposedly she has been away at law school, but she confides to Reed that she quit school years ago, and has been working as a waitress while she fruitlessly pursues a career in music. Reed encourages her to play on Open Mike Night at the local bar. He inspires her to find her voice, which leads to some complications in his relationship with Kate. This forces Reed to reexamine every aspect of his safe, secure life.

Reed Fish is a radio-show host who is soon to be married to his local love, Kate. Things seem swell for him until the first major love of his life comes back into town, making Reed wonder if he is really living the life that he wants to lead. This movie stars Alexis Bledel and Jay Baruchel, who I believe were both good fits for their characters. My major criticism of this movie, however, is that the movie had many scenes with sloppy writing and poor plot structure that took away from the humour or seriousness of the film. I would rate this movie 3/5 stars and recommend it to those who like “reflection” stories. @The_Reviewer of the Hamilton Public Library Teen Review Board
